some of the online arguments are very funny I have to admit..
HA! Great press though! I was going to email you to say that yours was by far better than Natalie's in the movie. It was very flat and perfect, like it was laser cut from a sheet of metal. I like the dimension and weighty-ness of yours. I mean, would Henry have given a "skinny" necklace? I think not!
thanks...It does look more dimensional in the portrait. no one knows exactly what it looked like as I don't think it still exists, but it was fun to attempt.
I saw the movie last night, and she wore that B through almost the whole way through! :D
Your jewels are so superior, I hope that all the imitators don't get you too crazy, it's hard though.
thank you, that is kind of you to say. I am not bothered at all by other people making B's as it isn't 'mine' to begin with, but obviously it hurts when it is an original design they are ripping off. They could at least wait four, five hundred years like I did ;)
Yours is by far the best!
And those of us in the know realize that you're sooooo not a one-hit wonder ;)
I can't believe people sometimes? Did they not realize that the one on Ugly Betty was a replica historic piece? And who is stupid enough to look at a poster for a "historical" movie and think the costumes were in any way based off of a contemporary TV show?? As a costume designer and costume historian, it makes me want to tear my hair out!!!
And as to the argument over who made Anne Boleyn's necklace first...she did. And as for who wore it best? She did. You make an excellent replica. More accurate looking in terms of the weight and luster of the pearls and of the pendant itself as well. The necklaces seen on both recent portrayals of Anne Boleyn look too lightweight and "costumey" and just plain cheap.
I was surprised to find people that did think it was worn by Betty 'first'. I guess if you don't pay much attention in History class, you would never know! :) What can you do. I didn't pay attention in math class, so I cannot bitch!
Thank you for the compliments on my B, much appreciated.
it is crazy that people wouldn't get why betty is wearing her "B" necklace(do they not teach history anymore?)! it is because she is smart and knows her history. i have seen anne in "the tudors" and she doesn't wear her "B" necklace enough and i don't like it as much as like your version(i'm not just saying that because i love you!). the insulting designer can bite me because i am already in a bad mood(after all this kit stuff) and just looking for a fight! all and all, this is great- i wish they would have included you as the person who made ugly betty's necklace though. someday i will order my "X" necklace so i can be madame X! my "X" will stand for "extremely out of control mad woman so watch out!". hee!
I try not to let people or situations bother me, not worth the annoyance unless they are seriously messing with my way of feeding my many beasts :)
lady X you will be. I like it! I think it is one of the only letters I haven't made yet. or a Z!
Grrr. I've love to know who puts your design down to promote hers! (But I know you're too classy to divulge.) I'd go bite her face off.
Ha! It does irritate me, but only a little. Her site pops up on internet searches for Ugly Betty Necklace/ and or Anne Boleyn Necklace. That is all I'll say!
My mom saw The Other Boleyn girl and came all over with the desire for Tudor jewelry. I told her about you! And had been wondering whether or not you did the jewelry for the film. Ah well.
Thanks for spreading the word :)
Not sure where they got the jewelry for the film from, there is one company in the UK that rents out most period pieces.
it's indeed a great honour! you go girl! ;)
Your "B" is the best. Hands and axes down.
ha ha! axes. still want to make a teeny tiny one for the Boleyn doll of yours I have.
I wonder if there are any paintings or drawings of the actual sword the French executioner used on Anne B. Then it would really be authentic! You should still make her a little tiny "B" necklace of her own!
I recognised the Ugly Betty B as an adaption of Anne Boleyn's, since I'd studied art history enough to have seen paintings of her. In fact, I've been so immersed in British history lately that it's hard for me to believe so many of my fellow Brits don't know about Anne Boleyn's favourite necklace!
I don't think I'll see the film. I had real problems with the book, which demonised Anne Boleyn and made her out to be a scheming bitch rather than the pawn of her family's ambitions. I found Phillipa Gregory's work cruel and simplistic and I think she should stop writing.
Most of my orders of the B (or variations of) these days are coming in from the UK, so I think it is more recognized there for obvious reasons.
I haven't read the book and I try to take interpretations with a grain of salt, but that does sound extreme. People put their own experiences and perspectives into the books they write, even if it is supposed to be unbiased and balanced it seems. I guess it makes for 'more drama', but yes, annoying for those looking for realism and 'the truth'.
i'm with you. while i realize the book is a fictional adaptation of factual events, i don't like the way the author messed with so many of the facts, like switching the girls around so that mary is younger. i also don't see why hollywood had to cast two americans and an australian to play three british roles. i would only want to watch it for the costumes, so i'd have to wear earplugs to ignore the rest. and now if people are now getting uppity with jen for her gorgeous jewellery, one more reason not to see the film. (wow, i'm cranky this morning, haha!)
yours as is all your creations are gorgeous. Do you make other letters? Any pics around of a "K"? |
